Seventeen school-wide guides sit above, and 156 per-assessment manuals sit behind the 42 courses in the catalog. Read them in this order and nothing repeats itself. Start with the FlexPath writing manual, because every other page assumes it: the four criterion levels, the scoring guide used as an outline rather than skimmed as a checklist, and the one extra move that separates the top level from the safe one. Capella FlexPath help that skips that manual reads like trivia, since the mechanics pages mostly describe consequences of rules the manual sets out.

Then read for format rather than curiosity. Whatever your next deliverable is, one mechanics page matches it, and reading the other three is a way of not starting. Pacing comes third, once your first evaluation has come back, because pace decisions made before you have seen the queue are guesses. The money pages work differently: read them once before you enroll and again before a session rolls over, then leave them alone.

A school-wide guide, or a per-assessment manual

The two page types answer different questions and go stale at different speeds, which is the whole basis for choosing between them.

Neither outranks your courseroom. Both types describe the shape of the work; the scoring guide attached to your assessment describes the grade.

The four mechanics that appear in every guide

The overlap between these pages is deliberate. Four things decide grades regardless of course, and a guide that left them out would be lying by omission.

• The criterion verb. Analyze, describe, evaluate and compare are four different section shapes. A described problem where the criterion said analyze is complete, correct, and capped.
• The extra move. Proficient means the criterion is answered. The top level names one thing beyond that, usually a limitation, an implication, a comparison, or an impact. Find that phrase in the top cell and write the sentence it asks for.
• Evidence currency. The working rule is peer-reviewed and roughly the last five years. An older source can do background work when you say why it is there; an older source doing appraisal work quietly is what pulls strong analysis down.
• The evaluation window. Faculty have two business days to evaluate an attempt, and weekends and holidays fall outside the count.

The window is the one worth arithmetic. Submit Wednesday morning and the two days run Thursday and Friday, so your slot reopens inside the same week. Submit late Friday and the count starts Monday and ends Tuesday: four idle calendar days bought with a few hours of delay. Your scoring guide, without argument. These pages describe how Capella grades and how its formats behave, dated on each page. They cannot describe the version of a course you are sitting in. When the two disagree, follow the courseroom and treat the guide as the reasoning behind it.

Can I paste a guide into an AI assistant and let it write the assessment?

You can hand an assistant the mechanics, and it will stop guessing at them, which is most of why these pages are open. What it cannot supply is the material the top level actually pays for: the measurable gap on your own unit, the two studies that disagree and which one you weight, the barrier you know will resist the change. Read anything generated as study material, not as a draft.

What is deliberately not on these pages?

Capella's scoring guide text, which belongs to the university and varies by course version. Invented numbers: the money guides carry published figures only, and rates change, so confirm anything that costs money with your enrollment counselor. The nurse practitioner tracks, FNP and PMHNP, which run on GuidedPath rather than the FlexPath MSN. And any promise about what a particular evaluator will do with a particular draft, which nobody outside your courseroom can make honestly.
